Using Aromatherapy
In order to receive the benefit of an essential oil, you must first get it into the body’s system. In most cases, essential oils work great applied directly to the skin. There are many other methods, a few are described here:

  • Inhalation — Inhalation is one of the simplest methods and is probably the most commonly used. The nasal membranes have a high concentration of nerve endings and are very close to the brain, which results in a speedy response. There are many specialized diffuser units available.

  • Misting — Add 10 drops of essential oil and 1 cup of distilled water to a spray mist dispenser. Spray lightly into the air or onto your linens.

  • Vaporizer — Add 10 drops of essential oil to each cup of water in your vaporizer unit. Use only the lighter and colorless essential oils for this method, such as lavender, eucalyptus or peppermint. The heavier, often colored oils such as patchouli or sandalwood) may clog the works.

  • Steam Room — Add just a few drops to the rocks in the steam room. Be careful! A little goes a long way.

  • In the bath — When you immerse your body in warm water, the pores in your skin open. When you add essential oils to your bath, they are easily absorbed into your system. 10 drops of essential oil in a full tub of water is plenty! For children, use only 5 drops for ˝ bath and be sure to use only the gentlest oils such as lavender or chamomile.

  • Hair rinse — After your normal hair care routine, mix 2-3 drops of essential oils to a 16 oz cup. Fill with warm water and pour over your hair. Massage gently and leave on. Do not rinse.

  • Hot oil treatments — To restore and repair dry hair, use 2 oz of warm jojoba oil and add 4-6 drops of essential oil. Massage into the hair and the scalp and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Shampoo well.

  • Skin Tonic — Use ordinary spring water as a base for skin tonics. For normal to dry skin, add 2 drops of essential oil to 3 oz of water. For astringent use on oily skin or blemishes, add 1 ounce of witch hazel and 1 more drop of essential oil to the preceding water recipe. You can substitute white or apple cider vinegar for the witch hazel if you prefer.

  • Compress — Fill a basin or sink with 1 gallon of water and add 10 drops of essential oil. Float a wash cloth on top. Wring out cloth and apply to the affected area. The water temperature will be warm or cold according to the needs of the situation.

  • Salves and ointments — Add 5-6 drops of essential oil to 1 tbsp. of melted beeswax and 3 tbsp. of good carrier oil.

  • Massage oil — Add 5-6 drops of essential oil to each ounce of a cold pressed, carrier or base oil. Massage liberally into the body. This is perhaps my favorite method because you get the therapeutic effect of the essential oils along with the relaxing effect of the massage.

  • Perfumery — Dab a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your pulse points, behind your ears or knees. A few drops massaged into your hair will last most of the day.

Hope this gives you some new ideas..........
